Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Paul D — 01 Dec 2017
Charlie Kauffman: A writer with a pair of balls.
A film within a film, within a film. Gotta commend the guy for even attempting something like this. Halfway through I was almost resigned to the fact that it was gonna let me down...I didnt see where he could take it...Great twists, extremely engaging...if you like that sort of thing! Definitely a thinking man's film.
The screenplay is refreshingly original (to my knowledge) and Cage gives one of THE great performances, playing two distinctly different characters off against one another. Due to him playing both guys, he had nothing to react to. Bearing that in mind as you watch the film, it makes his performance(s) all the more impressive. Then you have Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper, y'know, just for the hell of it!
