Review of Adaptation. (2002) by Brad G — 29 May 2010
What do you write after youâ??ve completed the brilliantly bizarre Being John Malkovich? Well, apparently, you write yourself and your imaginary twin brother into an adventure about flowers and screenwriting.
The result is more brilliant and more bizarre than Malkovich. Nicolas Cage plays the twin writersâ??one sheepish and sweaty, the other cocky and confident. Together they delve into the increasingly Hollywood lives of New Yorker Susan Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her subject The Orchid Thief, John Leroche (Chris Cooper).
And the results are both awkward and heroic. With his incessant narration, Cage turns in not one, but two of his finest performances. If ya like quirky, yer gonna love this. VF.
