Really, really clever and really, really original, "Adaptation" is a perfect example of a film that works so much better when you know nothing about it going in, which I didn't. The comedy is subtle, for the most part, and isn't forced on the viewer, coming less from jokes and more from what's going on (the last twenty or so minutes are hilarious once you realise what's happening).
Amazing performances all round but, for me, Cage really steals the show and probably gives his best straight role.
