Review of Ad Astra (2019) by Efram — 25 Dec 2019
As a Sci-fi fan I was looking forward to Ad Astra. However, as a Sci-Fi fan I found the film to be pedantic, dreary, boring and contrived. The voice over narration was at times both annoying and obsequious, but the biggest problem for me was the concept of the "Surge".
This is the basic premise holding the film together, and when all was said and done, the "Surge" was not only not adequately explained, it was totally glossed over. Careless Sci-Fi-fi is the worst kind of film making duplicity because it's easy to "create" a sci-fi-fi narrative that has no real basis in actual facts.
Such was the case here. A waste of 88 million dollars and a lot of good PD efforts.
