Review of Ad Astra (2019) by Sassymah — 25 Oct 2019
Ad Astra is an art film set in space. It is about a man's existential crisis via the lens of an attachment issue to his father. I can't elaborate more on the plot without revealing spoilers. Brad Pitt gives an understated and impressive performance here that I found riveting.
Most actors wouldn't be able to pull off an effective performance with such an abstract plot in a minimalist movie. James Gray is a genius. The cinematography is beautiful and the original score is haunting.
This is the Space Odyssey of our generation. It is a very compelling movie.
