Review of Act of Valor (2012) by Andy W — 02 Jan 2013
I think this film was hoping to have the same impact that Tony Scott's Top Gun had in the 80's, "Uncle Sam Needs You Son, so now you're all pumped to be a NAVY SEAL why not sign up on the dotted line? Ho-Rah!".
.. whether it succeeded or not remains to be seen. For me I thought the idea of using active service men to play essentially themselves was quite an enticing prospect... if done correctly. I have to say that the acting was just god awful, and the story was as flimsy as hell, action packed full of cliches, e.
G. (*Spoiler warning*) Lt expecting his first child, wife at home, due for shore leave in 2 weeks... guess his story arch by any chance? But speaking of being action packed, this film does what it promises what "combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.
" the action is tightly filmed and appears to very accurate. They even pull off the FPS POV shots extremely well. Reminds me of what a Call of Duty film might be like... and I am sure that is on the cards! Overall, it comes across like a big budget TV movie with good action sequences passed the time and made me want to load up Battlefield 3, not join up!
