Review of Abduction (2011) by Claire B — 04 Apr 2014
Abduction, a film where nobody actually gets abducted, had the potential to be a cliche soufflÃÂ (C), but collapsed into mush due to clumsy acting, writing, and directing.
I spent the first half of the movie trying to decide whether Nathan or his father was a bigger brat, and the second waiting for some actual action to begin (spoiler: it doesn't). While Lily Collins does her best with her absolutely pointless role, Lautner doesn't seem to try at all. However, to make up for the lack of strong characters, we are offered a plethora of electric guitar and shirtless Lautner. The plot is so obvious yet there are too many plot holes to count, and I couldn't stop myself from laughing at parts that weren't supposed to be funny at all. Every Hollywood cliche possible is present, from the unimportant black best friend to the wrapped-up-neatly-with-a-bow-on-top ending.
