Watching A Woman Under the Influence is a profound experience. An extraordinary film that really touches the nerve. A masterwork about a blue-collar couple with kids where the woman is having a sort of emotional meltdown and neither she and the husband are able to "fix" it.

As much as the husband truly loves his wife, he can't truly understand her eventually gets her committed for a short stay in an asylum. But upon her arriving back home we find that nothing has really changed but like the rest of us, they just have to learn how to go on living the rest of their days.

Some amazing direction from legendary American independent filmmaker John Cassavetes and some of the finest acting ever committed to celluloid by Gena Rowlands in an Oscar nominated role as well as Peter Falk (in an Oscar caliber performance).

It's one of the greatest films to come out of the 1970s, a decade which brought so many other amazing, uncompromising films by some of the greatest auteurs of the medium. An essential piece of cinema.

10/10.
