Review of A Wednesday! (2008) by Mathew A — 09 Sep 2008
'A Wednesday' shows what we (The Common Man) might end up becoming if we ignore this issue. It hits you hard because of the realistic topic. Needless to mention that the acting is par excellence.
Anupam Kher is fantastic and according to me is the life of the film. Nassirudin Shah shines in the climax, his phone conversation with the Police Commissioner of Mumbai (Anupam Kher) towards the end is fantastic.
Jimmy Shergill is very good as well. This is a edge of your seat, mind numbing thriller. The treatment by debutant director Neeraj Pandy reminded me a lot of the film 'Black Friday' (on my all time favourite list) The camera movements demand your attention.
It is obvious that he made this film not to entertain but to prove a point although you need not worry, Jimmy even cracks a few jokes. A WEDNESDAY is amongst the finest and bravest films in recent times.
This film provokes you makes you question yourself, What can I do, What should I do to wipe out terrorism from my city, my country? I am busy running my house and doing a damn good job at it but are the people running my country doing a good job to make me feel safe to ride a bus, a train, board a plane? If nothing happens then the 'stupid common man' will want to clean his house one day.
