Review of A Very Long Engagement (2004) by Philip D — 31 Mar 2008
A chick flick ? well surprisingly no ! a brilliantly written and wonderfully acted and filmed piece of cinema, I watched this expecting some overlong trite love story but was very pleasantly surprised the film is a story of a young woman {audrey tatou}who refuses to believe her fiancee has been killed in the war and sets of on a quest to find him gradualling events start to unfold and the story is told in retrospect as she starts to uncover a series of remarkabely connected stories cant say anymore without spoiling it so watch and enjoy, also the film benefits from the quirky direction of jean-pieere junet which keeps it interesting throughout and some short but very well done scenes of carnage of battlefields of ww1,oh also look out for jodie foster she has small part.
