Review of A Star Is Born (1954) by Neto F — 22 May 2012
Because it was made by Judy Garland's own company production, idealized to give her back the stardom she had at the M-G-M days, A Star is Born ended up as being a showcase of Judy's immense talent. That is wonderful when you had someone like Judy on a movie, but the problem with trying to milk every single posibility of a star in a movie is to have scenes, wonderful as they may be, unnecessary from the point of view of story telling. As a result of that, the movie went too long and it was butchered by Warner's after its initial release.
Nevertheless, it still remains in any of my TOP 10 Best Movies Ever Made list and anything I can say would fall short in justice to such a great movie.
