Review of A Simple Plan (1998) by Ernesto J. M — 26 Jun 2014
(Sorry for my bad english) The premise is not unfamiliar, but rarely is a film this skillful at drawing us, step by step, into the consequences of criminal action. This film faces the moral implications of the characters when they found 4 million dollars in the woods, and how they get into worse implications just for avoiding the guilt.
The performances fit perfectly, even when their characters need to fake apathy for their own sake. It´s not just only drama. It also works as a thriller. There is the danger that the theft will be discovered.
The deepening hole of crime they dig for themselves. Suspense over the source of the money. Mystery over the true identity of some characters. It´s a Fargo-esque tense and highly engrossing movie.
