Review of A Simple Plan (1998) by Eric M — 18 Sep 2015
A delightful crime thriller that's quite smart and very entertaining. I have seen the "Evil Dead" flicks way back, and naturally "Spider-Man". Otherwise I have not seen any Raimi flicks of this kind. It reminds me a lot of "Fargo" or other Cohen films. It got that light mood. It's smooth, rugged and the dialogues are smart.
The story is simple and not the most original maybe. Three fellas comes over some millions of dollars stashed somewhere. What do you do? They make a plan. A simple plan that often changes.
Twisted and superbly crafted film. Great acting all over the line - Billy Bob is especially great. Neat turns and touches and a constant build up. No boring moments here. The end actually came a bit quick. It's two hours long, but I wanted a few minutes more when the credits showed up.
I like the big theme here, what money makes people do and it's power. It's well presented here. Paranoia, greed, agony, love - it's all there. Throw in a lot of suspence and a smooth running film and you got a perfect late night film. Not to light, not to heavy.
8.5 out of 10 crows.
