Review of A Shot at Glory (2000) by Andrew H — 11 Dec 2010
A terrible movie that tries to show the magic of Scottish football and also attempts to expose and mend the religious bigotry that exists within the game. On both counts it fails miserably.
There are scenes in this film that are beyond ridicule. In one game there is a full back who must be 18 stone. (It's ex player Ian McCall I think but he's 40 plus).
Add to the poor plot and terrible script you have the great Duvall trying to do a Scottish accent and it's dreadful. Worse than Dick Van Dyke's attempt at Cockney in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Yes the cinematography looks great but then anyone with a camera in Scotland will get breathtaking images - it's one truly stunningly beautiful country.
Watch this if you want a bit of mild amusement - nothing else.
