Review of First Man (2018) by Andrew H — 14 Oct 2018
I'm 37 and this made me want to be an astronaut. A fantastic telling of an one of man's most incredible achievements. It doesn't try to deify the astronauts, like every other thing I've ever read or seen about the Gemini/Apollo (and Mercury too for that matter) astronauts.
It just shows Armstrong as an incredibly driven person whose persistence and ability to compartmentalize a jolting amount of tragedy (perhaps to the detriment of his family) to as key to making the Apollo program successful.
This is an incredible movie about an incredible event in human history. This is the best performance I've ever seen Ryan Gosling make, and he's been pretty damn good in a lot of stuff.
