Review of A Short Film About Love (1988) by Neil K — 20 Aug 2008
This is an extraordinary and original take on voyeurism. Hitchcock used it as a theme for a murder thriller (in Rear Window), Kieslowski took a different approach. His voyeur is sexually immature and in love with his female neighbour whom he views each night through a telescope.
Its all handled with sensitivity and without cheap titillation or Hollywood style sentiment. Its a rather unconventional story but the dialogue and the acting from both protagonists is absolutely flawless.
European cinema at its finest.
