Review of A Short Film About Love (1988) by Mikael K — 27 Nov 2010
Kieslowski's subtle, simple but controvercial flick about an odd love story between a teenaged boy and an older woman. The film begins as a comical but slightly disturbing depiction of a one-sided, obsessive fascination and turns into something truly twisted as the tables get turned and the victim of a stalker starts to dominate an inprobable relationship.
Kieslowski doesn't judge the characters; their bahaviour is guided by ambivalent motives but it is clear that they are both completely vulnerable throughout the tale, and what at first seems to be the obvious setting can turn into something completely different.
