Review of A Short Film About Love (1988) by Mattias E — 08 Aug 2009
Personally, I'm still a bit disappointed that Kieslowski chose to expand this Dekalog entry into a full-length movie rather than the far superior tenth episode, the one in which the great Jerzy Stuhr and Zbigniew Zamachowski go bananas trying to sell off and then buy back their deceased father's priceless stamp collection.
Compared to the dark comedy and crazy antics of the latter, Krótki film o milosci feels excruciatingly plain and even trivial at times. Why Kieslowski found it necessary to change the original ending, with it's dark ironic twist extinguishing every tendency of feelgood-movie, is also beyond my comprehension.
