Review of A Serbian Film (2010) by Ben T — 13 Aug 2011
It's not a movie for everyone, that's for sure, but it is surprisingly engaging and surprisingly well made. What's mostly surprising to me personally is that I'm probably the first person who has seen this and expected worse.
Sure it was graphic, but it was no "Salo: The 120 Days of Sodom". It was disturbing at some points(mainly the twist in the film), but it's not the grossest film I've seen. Overall, it may be gross at moments, but with it's good performances, great cinematography, and a script with good pace, structure, and a heavy social commentary that bashes their own country over the head so hard that Serbia banned it, makes 'a Serbian Film" the most daring and ballsy film of the year.
With that in mind, the last surprise: One of my favorite films 2010.
