Review of A Room with a View (1986) by Camilla O — 05 Jan 2011
80's movies re-visited 4 out of 5: I was going to write about Eat, Pray, Love but decided I wanted to view this one once more instead. Letâ(TM)s face it: If youâ(TM)re going to watch only *one* movie about travelling to Italy you canâ(TM)t miss out this one.
Itâ(TM)s so much more funnier (even though Julia Roberts smile a lot in Eat, Pray, Love thereâ(TM)s really not much to laugh or smile about) the view is far better (breath taking Venice vs. the ruins of Rome) and the cast is superb; Helena Bonham Carter as the young female lead; Maggie Smith as her older cousin, Dame Judi Dench as the wicked romance novelist.
Eat, Pray, Love do feature two sensible lovers and alas one of them even cries, but none of them can compare to Julian Sands in one of his finest moment as the understated, mellow gentleman George Emerson; Denhom Elliot plays his father.
No tutoring in Italian is offered although the locals are having some effect on the tourists; the English priest who tries to preach religion and culture to his fellow countrymen and of course the Italian village men and women who drives the open carriage and show signs of affection where theyâ(TM)re not suppose to.
When it comes to praying and falling in love A Room With a View offers less spiritual enlightenment but offers a handful of lessons in the art of falling in love all over again.
