Review of A River Runs Through It (1992) by Jake P — 28 Apr 2012
"Eventually all things merge to one, and A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT.".
A family drama with heart and soul, a living, breathing humanistic film about family, morals, love, religion, and the love that we all share without families. Director Robert Redford (Jeremiah Johnson) has fashioned a timeless family work of art here that's packed with some of the most breathtakingly beautiful cinematography and gorgeous scenery ever to be captured on film. A film that really dives deep iron your heart, one that grabs your attention quick and sucks the viewer into a gripping vortex of emotion and drama. A River Runs Through It is so real with it's uncanny ability to make you really ponder your own life and produce real, deep and raw emotion. A superbly down to earth film that's simple, yet stirring and intricate in it's own strange and searingly original way. Some of the images captured in this film by Robert Redford and company have been burned and etched into my brain forever with their sheer beauty and utterly gorgeous characteristics. Throughout the film, I found myself edgy, their was a uncontrollable inkling that something very bad was going to happen to this simple American family. A River Runs Through It is one of the best family dramas that I've ever seen, it's not overly sappy or drawn out, it's never boring and it had me caught in it's dramatic grip for the entire runtime.
Redford assembled a great cast for this one. Craig Sheffer is the lead and gives us a fantastic performance throughout, I haven't seen too much of this guys acting, but I'll tell you what, he is a true talent and very comcintosh throughout. Brad Pitt gives a charming, subtle and brilliantly wonderful performance, one that had to be very complicated to see through, no one in the game has the ability to play a complicated man quite like Brad Pitt. Tom Skerett is great as well in a role that no one on the planet could have played better.
