Review of A River Runs Through It (1992) by F B — 03 Jul 2017
I've been really anxious since the very beginning of the year. Too anxious to appreciate anything with a peaceful mind. But I find this movie has its own magic. Its beautiful shots, the river, the lush summer forest, the wooden houses, all those nostalgic scenes somehow calm me down.
All the shining moments in life are just like the sunlight casted on the river, flowing through time, tied together by the sense of home and belonging, wherever we are, they take us back to where we come from and where good memory happens.
Apart from the story itself, Paul is definitely a remarkable part. As said by Norman, he is an "outlaw", at the same time, a work of art(so is the young Brad Pitt). Unshackled and untainted, there he is, always smiling, and never growing old.
It's not hard for me to accept the idea that the beautiful art work couldn't last long because the river won't stop its flow either. But Paul finds his way to exist, his is the raindrops falling in the river, the words under the rocks.
