Review of A Quiet Place (2016) by Nitpicker . — 02 May 2018
A bunch of small Cloverfields have apparently invaded earth, but they can only hear sound, so in the words of Elmer Fudd, you have be vewy vewy quiet.
Pros.
- Suspenseful.
- Enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.
- Acting is OK.
- The concept is great.
Cons.
- CGI seemed a little weak to me. Do we not use practical special effects anymore? Someone call Tom Savini.
- We need to avoid loud noise. Let's have a baby!
- We get no explanation for anything.
Final Thoughts.
- There seems to be other survivors out there but we don't get to see them. Would have been nice to see some interaction between survivors.
- I don't understand why they didn't just find an underground shelter and remain there for the whole movie, and just have the father go for supplies and leave the kids and mother behind. Didn't the Walking Dead have Glenn go out by himself? Bringing all these kids is surely going to cause noise. I could see training them when they get older but the smallest one has no understanding of the severity of the situation. It doesn't make sense for the father when he seemingly thinks of pretty much everything else.
- I also don't know what they could be thinking by having a baby and jeopardizing everyone's lives. How does that decision make any sense? Anyone who's had a baby will tell you they're noise machines.
- What do they do when one of them gets severely sick with something like Bronchitis where there's constant loud coughing. There's no way they consistently find the exact medication needed for every situation, and at some point there won't be anymore medication.
- As far as the creatures themselves, they're just here, we don't know why. We don't see the demise of millions of people. This is the aftermath. I'm kind of amazed the family was able to get as much done in that short period of time. I mean I guess the dad was a gadget guy in profession. I would have like to see a little more backstory. Maybe that's for the next movie.
For a family that survived this long, they sure make a lot of stupid decisions.
