Review of A Place in the Sun (1951) by Kelly C — 23 Feb 2008
Well it was not quite accurate to what the story is based off of, but I guess that is why they say,"Based." The film was based off of the book,"An American Tragedy" which that book was based off of the true story of the 1906 case of Chester Gillette and Grace Brown, who were the characters played by Montgomery Clift and Shelley Winters. In that story he had every intention on killing her, and there was no "other girl" he was just a jerk who didn't want to deal with a pregnancy.
It is kind of sad that this film won 6 Oscars and made so much money off such a tragedy.
