I am a big film fan, and am fairly knowledgeable about film, but I learned so much from this documentary. Some of the interview footage of directors was astounding--Fritz Lang and Nicholas Ray thrilled me.
Scorsese's cogent analysis with an emotional overtone strikes a chord with this film fan. "The Director as Smuggler" was my favorite episode.
