Review of A Passage to India (1984) by Indi V — 17 Jul 2010
A successful play based on the novel ran for years during Forster's lifetime (he died in 1970), but the author would never give the go-ahead for a movie to be made, fearing that a director would fail to be even-handed, coming down too hard either on one side or the other.
However, in the hands of master director David Lean (his last film), the challenge was successfully met.
