Review of A Night at the Opera (1935) by Whowants T — 29 Dec 2004
Closer is about two dudes and two chicks who have relationship issues. Actor/dialogue driven; the portrayal offered by Clive Owen echoes very close to my feelings about love and betrayal. Natalie Portman's ass is spectacular.
Blade: Trinity is about a bunch of euro-trash vampires who decide that, in order to walk during the day, they need to awake Dracula and have him fight Blade or something. Everything's a mess (with HHH's acting being the worst of it) but I'm easily pleased, so I sort of enjoyed it. Dracula turns out to be a wuss. This movie also has the worst product placement I've ever seen. Blade is ghetto. They should make some sort of Blaxploitation movie with him. Well, more than Blade already is.
A Night At The Opera is my first Marx bros. flick. Great all-around comedy from Groucho, great musical talent from Harpo and what exactly is Chico's supposed to be? Could've used less love story.
Miller's Crossing is a Coens flick. Really, that says a lot about it right there. Gorgeous cinematography, solid acting, great script/overall interesting story and complex characters. An all-around solid movie which will probably earn an higher rating with subsequent viewings.
The Royal Tenenbaums rocks. I had already seen it, but what the hell, might as well rate it for posterity. A funny and touching view of redemption told through the quirkiest ensemble of characters I've seen yet. Ben Stiller and his brood in their red tracksuits are the absolute shiznit.
