Review of A Night at the Opera (1935) by Gina M — 12 Sep 2011
How the HELL is this considered one of the greatest films of all time?! By ANYONE?! Even with the understanding that the Marx boys' particular blend of comedy is an acquired taste, this is just bad.
Stiff direction, TERRIBLE continuity issues throughout, fake looking setups (especially Groucho's room on the boat) and extremely cheesy, unfunny jokes. I think I may have slightly chuckled once of twice in spite of myself, but for the most part this is one of the poorest examples of early comedy I've seen.
Leonard Maltin, you and I are no longer friends.
