Review of A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy (1982) by Claire H — 19 Apr 2009
This is a Woody Allen flick that I'd not even ever heard of but happened to catch it on t.v. and was pretty excited, since I'm a huge fan of Woody Allen films, but I have to say, this was not one of his better ones.
It certainly weaved a complicated love web and all the deception and going behind eachother's backs was a bit much for me. What a fickle bunch of folk! Allen definitely delivers some very witty and humorous lines and conversations, but I just found myself getting frustrated with everyone wanting everyone else that they couldn't have! Just be happy with what you've chosen, people! I did find it to be pretty amusing that Woody Allen hooked up with Mia Farrow after wanting each other all that time and then they were just sort of like, "oh.
...well..." ha! I thought that was pretty funny that after being so set on sleeping with each other, they ended up not even really enjoying it. I think we all have that person we hold up on a pedestal thinking, "man, if I ever get with them, I bet it'll be mind-blowing" when it reality it'll probably just be a huge disappointment.
Glad I saw this flick, just because I'm a mission to watch all Woody Allen films, but not sure that this is one I'll be buying.
