Review of A Man for All Seasons (1966) by Christian P — 16 Nov 2007
The relationship between Henry VIII and Thomas More (Knight and latter day Saint) was certainly complex and this movie movingly depicts More's moral and spiritual dilemmas as his monarch and friend turns against the Catholic Church.
Whether More was as whiter than white as depicted in the play/film is open to question but there is no gainsaying Paul Scofield's towering performance as the man at the centre of one of the most crucial periods in English History.
Robert Shaw's Henry and Leo McKerns thoroughly villanous Thomas Cromwell are also worthy of note. A perfect anecdote to the recent Tudors travesty.
