Review of A Man for All Seasons (1966) by Naida S — 12 May 2008
Well...Sir Thomas was a perfect lawyer and he was executed (b/c he was a perfect lawyer)...Is there a lesson to learn? If yes, which lesson? how to be a perfect lawyer or rather what to do in order not to get into trouble? One contradicts the other.
I liked many of his monologues: "I give the devil benefit of the law for my own sake." or the other one: "A man should suffer if there is no escape. But this God's business not ours to bring us to such a path.
Our natural business lies in escaping." A story about a hero. Who wants to be a hero? Anyway, I loved Sir Thomas. He was right: this is the world where grid rules rather than virtue and for him to be a hero was the only way to be.
