Review of A Man and a Woman (1966) by Cecy Q — 11 Feb 2011
"A Man and a Woman" what a simple title. In my eyes this picture does not deserve to be the movie with that title. This film could be the perfect romantic movie of the century. But as all other french men, Claude Lelouch just had too follow Jean-Luc Godard. Why wreck a so lovely story?
Do I have to tell you what this whole picture is about? this is the story about a young widow (Anouk Aimée) of a deceased stunt man who died of an explotion on the set of a war picture. The widow later falls in love with a race car driver (Jean-Louis Trintignant). But the widow still is to much in love with her deceased husband.
I love the first and the last 15 minutes of the film. But the rest, the part in the middle is just borring and daffy conversations and endless, confusing and noisy auto racing. All the confusing black and white and colour scenes just don't make sence an feels like an hour more.
