Ashton Kutcher gives a pleasing and natural performance in this light movie. The movie may not be the greatest, but the way he handles this role shows what he can do when given a good director. His subtle changes of mood in close up show real talent and intelligent acting. Kutcher's natural screen charisma is so confident, it is arresting. (This onscreen charisma reminds me of Brad Pitt's performance in Meet Joe Black - another so-so movie that showed his talent to light up the moment.) Kutcher handles gentle inner conflict mixed with humor and kindness very well. Perhaps that is not considered real acting, because it comes across as completely effortless. His presence carries. It works. It is as if he knows exactly how little needs to be done on the big screen. This shows that he knows how to make choices that fit the genre, because he can ham it up as big as necessary when called for - as in his TV work. Kutcher's work here shows a promise of genius to come, if he ever gets the chance to show his stuff in a real role about a real human being.
