Review of A Late Quartet (2012) by Wayne M — 23 Mar 2013
A fine film that is highlighted by absolutely superb acting. The story of a veteran and celebrated string quartet is thoughtful and rewarding. Hoffman, naturally, and Walken are especially great as two troubled men whose struggles are beautifully depicted.
Set in a New York winter the quartet learn that one of their members is suffering from Parkinson's. Soon though they all discover darker secrets from their common past. Even though a few scenes are over written this is a fine film that celebrates music and acting in a substantial matter.
