One of the most powerful cinematic statements on racism I've ever seen. The film presents its subject matter with such an intense, unapologetic, forthright, merciless, and sheer raw force that it is genuinely unsettling and even disturbing in moments.

Expertly balanced between racial sensibility and harsh, unforgiving realism with an empathetic sense of humor blended in, this movie's voice rings loud, proud, relentless, and relevant, bulldozing its audience with a message encompassing words spoken by one of its lead characters: "You all need to wake up!" It would be unjust to deny Oscar nominations to this film and its masterful director, Spike Lee.
