Review of A King in New York (1957) by John S — 11 Sep 2011
This is an important work for a number of reasons. First it is Chaplin taking on Uncle Sam in the same way he took on Hitler in "The Great Dictator", and he land a lot of good punches. Second, it is a showcase for Chaplin as a "talkie" actor, and he proves he is good in this medium as well.
Third, it is Chaplin's final starring role in a movie. It is not, however a great movie in the vein of "The Great Dictator" or any of a number of other Chaplin movies. On the other hand, it is pretty entertaining and you won't be sorry you watched it.
