Review of A History of Violence (2005) by Balraj D — 04 Aug 2010
Tom Stall: In this family, we do not solve problems by hitting people!
Jack Stall: No, in this family, we shoot them!
A family film at heart, but one that offers so much more than family drama. Mortenson is believable at the beginning of the film, and leaves audiences guessing on his true identity. The violence is well and truly concealed, and eventually revealed in effective ways. An enjoyable film, with a brutal ending, not the violence but the fact that his family are eventually able to accept his life and move on. Violence does indeed become history in favour of hiding the truth.
