Review of A Few Good Men (1992) by Blake A — 14 Jul 2012
Incredibly good. I wasn't expecting anything from this movie, but it pulls you right into the story. A courtroom drama isn't something that I was that interested to see, but the movie far exceeded my expectations.
The story is of two Marines who are accused of murdering a fellow Marine. Navy Lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee is sent to defend the two accused Marines. Its up to Kaffee to prove that these two Marines were ordered to torture the now dead Marine by Col. Nathan Jessup.
Tom Cruise plays Kaffee. He has a bunch of really great rants, and Cruise's performance is spectacular. As is Jack Nicholson as Col. Jessup. He really gets to let loose in the final courtroom questioning between Kaffee and Jessup. And the infamous line, "You can't handle the truth!" is said in this scene. Nicholson is fantastic. Each and everyone in this cast is incredible, watch for great performances by Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Kiefer Sutherland.
Overall, this movie is incredible. It holds your attention throughout.
"We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post." 8.5/10.
