Review of A Face in the Crowd (1957) by Ricky H — 25 Jul 2012
It's Andy Griffith like you've never seen him. Imagine a cross between Will Rogers and Glenn Beck and you'd get Larry 'Lonesome' Rhodes, an opportunist blessed with a charismatic television personality and is able to sway the views of the masses with his simple minded homespun wisdom.
Rhodes secretly holds his reactionary audience with great contempt and only manipulates their views for those in power to increase his own wealth and popularity. It's incredibly sad that this was a problem over 50 years ago and you can easily find modern day parallels in today's media.
A very smart film.
