Review of A Boy and His Dog (1975) by Troy F — 24 Jan 2013
A Boy And His Dog was interesting for it's very odd vision of an apocalyptic future. You feel like it's early Mad Max at first, but wow does the film takes it turn and portray an underground society gone totally nuts in keeping civil order.
It's creepy and frightening the kind of vision we see here, and it's honestly kind of brilliant, though a bit off-putting. The ending is what sets off some people from their initial feelings about the film, I for one thought it's dark comic intent worked, it's a definitive idea of a dark comedy ending.
But also felt out a bit out of place, so it's questionable! The film isn't much in acting, rather has that cheap lousy 70's feel to it, but its vision and unique bond between the boy and the dog gives it enough appeal.
The dog was the best! Worth a look.
