Review of A Better Life (2011) by Zack M — 26 Jul 2011
Basically this film is an emotionally driven and very well acted cliche.
That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, which I did. But there were many other deserving foreign language films that were head and shoulders above this one. The real reason to watch this film is for Demian Bichir's performance as the struggling father. In fact, that was the one character which seemed real for me throughout the film, and also the only one I was attached to on screen.
It was a good film, and far from the worst of this year or last. And most definitely worth a watch. Although it is overrated and flawed in many was, it's the emotional story being told and the lead actor's performance that will leave an impact on you.
