Review of 8 Mile (2002) by Guido S — 29 Aug 2013

Eminem plays a slightly fictionalized version of himself where he chronicles his struggles of being accepted into the world of hip hop as a white rapper. He has the talent, but hasn't put it on display for the world to know.

Set in Detroit, the city doesn't really play a huge role in the film. Given that it is called '8 Mile' and that is the actual divider between Detroit proper and the suburbs, there was a lot that could have been explored there but isn't.

Eminem does better than expected. The story moves along at a decent pace. Though the rap battles are the star of the show here. Still worth a watch, if only for that.
