Review of 45 Years (2015) by Dada P — 07 Feb 2016
A lot of these late Oscar push movies just haven't been for me. 45 Years was well acted once again, but just not the kind of movies I enjoy. It is a thought provoking story about a couple about to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.
Kate (Charlotte Rampling) and Geoff Mercer (Tom Courtenay) have been happily married for many years. 5 days before their anniversary a letter comes informing Geoff that the body of his first love was found in the swiss alps preserved in the ice.
Geoff is shattered and begins slowly revealing to Kate stories of his past he never told her. Kate is destroyed learning more and more each day realizing that maybe she doesn't know the whole story.
The movie is just really depressing. It shows the death of a marriage slowly and even ends in a super awkward way. It's very slow paced even though it only clocks in at about an hour and a half. I would say most people might still enjoy this one, but go in knowing not everything will be answered.
Overall, a decent rent!
