Review of 42nd Street (1933) by Amanda B — 10 Jul 2007
Great musical about the making of a musical. The songs stick in your head, and though nothing life or death happens in the plot, this movie is definitely a feel-good flick. It's meant to be that way.
However, that does not mean that it can simply be brushed aside. Otherwise, it woudn't have been turned into a Broadway musical. Catchy dialogue adds to the fun. Ginger Rogers is not playing her usual sweetheart role in this one, and it's fun to see her with a little sass.
And Dick Powell can really carry a tune.
