Review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) by Stacey S — 22 Oct 2009
Slow pacing at the start makes it challenging to get into the characters, but the moral dilemmas they face (trying to obtain an illegal abortion in 1987 Romania) are chilling, from the desperation of the pregnant woman, to the lengths her friend goes to help her, to the power play of the abortionist, to the cluelessness of the friend's boyfriend.
Overlaid is the depressing reality of a controlled society without choices of all kinds, not just concerning reproductive rights. Too heart-rending to be a pleasure to watch, but thought-provoking and memorable.
