Review of 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) by Catherine P — 31 Jul 2011
Despite all the acclaim it received, "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" is more good than great. While I can understand the harrowing circumstances the two women went through to try and get an abortion for one of them, the stakes needed to be higher for me to really care.
Some context would be nice. Was the girl raped, or was the sexual encounter consensual and she merely wants to get out of having to have the child? For me, that would tip my sympathies in very different directions.
Very good performances, and appropriate shaky "cinema-verite'" camerawork are the highlights. The low points are needlessly long takes and a dinner conversation between bit characters that goes on way too long.
All in all, good but not great.
