Review of 31 (2016) by Frank F — 27 Sep 2016
Let me start off by saying that I'm not somebody who expects anything more than entertainment from a movie. A comedy should make you laugh. A horror should make you jump. An action film should get the adrenaline pumping. And that's really all that should be expected.
31 didn't do any of that. It didn't offer so much as a coherent plot or characters that I cared either way about. In fact, it felt like Sherri kept bugging Rob to concoct another vehicle for her, and to shut her up, he jumbled together "Hostel," "Saw," "House of 1,000 Corpses" (which is reallyTexas Chainsaw Massacre," anyway,) and of course, the oft borrowed "The Most Dangerous Game." And the result had the feel of a video game more than a movie. And usually with a Rob Zombie flick, you'd at least expect him to up the ante in terms of gore, but even that wasn't particularly impressive.
If it had one saving grace, other than some cool, retro, cinematography, it would be Malcolm McDowell, who took his role far more seriously than it deserved.
