Review of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010) by Rey Zaldy S — 27 Jan 2011
First, well it was a nice pace to see a change in scenery, compared to the first movie. Mind you, I am not saying that the Alaskan scenery was bad in that movie, but I welcomed this more urban setting open-heartedly.
As with the first movie, there was a continuous flow of action and suspense in this movie, and you were never left bored.
The people cast for this movie, performed well, and hats off for that. Although, there could have been more room for character-building, but then again this particular type of movie doesn't really thrive on such. It is a good step away from the mass-produced 'stereotypical' vampire movies, where they have to be oh-so-Gothic-and-deadly-romantic. Here the vampires are just bestial killers with a taste for human blood - as it should be. The vampires don't ooze around throwing off semi-sexual lines and dress all seductively here, they simply hunt and kill, straight to the point.
I didn't like the ending much, because it was so predictable. But there were some nice twists throughout the movie. I will not spoil it by saying what it is, but there are some nice touches to the story along the way.
And it is good to see there are still being made vampire movies for a more mature audience. Not everything has to be all flowery, teen-drama, with way too big hair, vampire-love-romance. You know what I am talking about.
