Review of 30 Days of Night (2007) by Jesse B — 01 Feb 2011
Quite a fun flick that provides plenty of moments of real terror. The use of practical effects adds an element of realism to the violence and makes the gore more horrific. The film has one of the best decapitation scenes I have ever witnessed besides "Hatchet," which is more of a face ripped open decapitation scene.
I feel Josh Hartnett is an underrated actor who can't seem to really get out of the teenage heartthrob image. When he acts outside of that image, he really shines. As in "Sin City," his parts were beautiful and in this movie, he is completely believable.
This is the new vampire wave, much like what "28 Days Later" did for zombies. The film drags just a little but ends on a great note, an ending that is most appropriate.
