Review of 3 Women (1977) by Michael M — 03 Oct 2007
I think this might be my favorite Robert Altman movie. It moves like a dream, and never goes in the direction you expect it to. All of Altman's tendencies as a filmmaker (which in some movies work brilliantly and in others fall apart into messy puddles of muck) come together so beautifully and perfectly here.
It's a gorgeous, dark and engrossing look at people we're not used to seeing in movies. Crazy people who are not batshit, over-the-top looney, but socially and emotionally off-balance enough to be left on the outskirts of social life, without the awareness that they are.
